Page Parameter Properties

Field Description
Name

Displays the name of the page parameter.

Notes:

  • Click Delete icon to delete the page parameter.
  • Click Up Arrow icon to move the page parameter up in the list. The order of page parameters in this section determines the order in which they are displayed to users on the Customize Page Parameters tab.
  • If Inherited from Template icon appears next to the page parameter, this means that the page parameter is inherited from the page template on which the page is based. To edit, delete, or move a page parameter that is inherited from a page template, you must edit, delete, or move the parameter in the template itself.
Display Name

Enter a descriptive name for the page parameter.

If you allow users to customize the value of this page parameter (by selecting the Customizable check box), the display name appears on the Customize Page: Parameters tab. Enter a meaningful name that will help users understand what kind of value to provide for the parameter.

Note: The display name can contain up to 4000 characters.

Default Value

Enter a default value for the parameter.

Example: If you add a page parameter to store the value of a stock symbol, you might set the default value of the parameter to be your company's stock symbol.

Notes:

  • The default value can contain up to 4000 characters.
  • This field is available only for Standard and Mobile pages and pages of custom types that are based on the Standard page type.
Customizable

Select to allow users to change the value of the parameter when they customize the page.

Example: If you add a page parameter to store the value of a stock symbol, you will probably want to enable users to change the value of the parameter to the stock symbol of the company for which they want to see stock information.

Note: This field is available only for Standard and Mobile pages and pages of custom types that are based on the Standard page type.

Description

Enter a description for the parameter.

If you allow users to customize the value of this page parameter (by selecting the Customizable check box), the description appears on the Customize Page: Parameters tab. Use the description to provide users with hints or an example of what kind of value to provide for the parameter.

Example: For a stock symbol page parameter you might provide the following description:

Enter the stock symbol of the company for which you want to see stock information, e.g., ORCL.

Note: The description can contain up to 4000 characters.

Portlet Parameter Values

value type list

Choose:

  • Null if you do not want to provide a value for the portlet parameter
  • Page Parameter if you want to use the value of one of the page parameters for the portlet parameter
  • System Variable if you want to use the value of a system variable for the portlet parameter, for example USER_NAME
  • Constant if you want to provide a specific value for the portlet parameter
value field or list

If you are using Internet Explorer: Choose the page parameter or system variable that provides the portlet parameter's value, or enter the constant value for the portlet parameter.

If you are using Netscape Navigator: Enter the name of the page parameter or system variable that provides the portlet parameter's value, or enter a value for the portlet parameter. If you are not sure of the page parameter or system variable name, click Browse icon and select a parameter or variable from the list provided.

Example: Say there is a stock ticker portlet on the page that uses the value of one of its parameters to determine the company for which to display stock information. You can specify that the portlet parameter obtains its value from your page's stock symbol parameter. As the page designer, you can set the value of the page parameter so that your page shows the stock information of a particular company. In addition, you can allow your users to change the value of the page parameter (by selecting the Customizable check box for the page parameter), so that they can choose for themselves what information they want to see in the stock ticker portlet.
