Image of link to Advanced Search

It can also be displayed on Custom Search portlets, if required.

Field Description
Page

Select this to specify a destination page for the Advanced Search link.

To select a page, click Image of dropdown list. The default is the Advanced Search Page.

URL

Select this to specify a URL for the Advanced Search link.

Enter the URL you want to use. If you have created a customized search engine that you want to use for advanced searches throughout the portal, you can specify its link here.

You can specify an absolute URL, or a relative URL. For example, http://www.yahoo.com creates a link directly to this Internet search site. If you enter a relative URL (i.e. a portal package), the value specified here is appended to the OracleAS Portal schema URL and this results in a call to the portal package. Note how the value is appended, depending on whether the value specified begins with '/':

/value results in this URL: http://webserver:portno/value

value results in this URL: http://webserver:portno/pls/dad/value

Search Properties

Field Description
Hits Per Page

Enter the default number of search results to display on a search results page.

You can override this setting for a particular Custom Search portlet, via its Edit Defaults option.

By default, if the number of results returned by a search exceeds this number, the search results pages include Next and Previous icons that enable users to view all the results. You can override this setting for a particular Custom Search portlet, via its Edit Defaults option.

Example: If you specify 10, the first 10 results are displayed on the first search results page, the next 10 on the second page, and so on.

Internet Search Engine

Field Description
URL

Enter the URL of an Internet search engine. This allows users to extend their search if they do not find the information they need in OracleAS Portal page groups.

Example: http://yahoo.com

Note: The URL must be fully formed, and include any associated parameters.

Link Text

Enter the text that users click to access the specified Internet search engine and send it their search criteria.

Example: YAHOO

If you enter YAHOO, the following text is displayed as a link in the Advanced Search portlet and optionally in Custom Search portlets.

Oracle Text Properties

If you see the message, "Oracle Text is not installed", Oracle Text is not installed on the database and is not available for your page groups. Arrange with your database administrator to have Oracle Text installed. Once an Oracle Text index exists you can turn on Oracle Text searching for your portal.

Field Description
Enable Oracle Text Searching

Select this check box to use Oracle Text and extend searching to the content of items (including uploaded files), the first page pointed to by a URL, display names, descriptions, and keywords.

Clear this check box to limit searching to item display names, descriptions, and keywords only.

Enable Themes And Gists

Select this check box to create a theme and gist for each item returned by the search.

  • A theme shows the nouns and verbs that occur most frequently within the item.

  • A gist displays a brief summary of the item, derived from how frequently those nouns and verbs appear.

Note: Themes and gists are not available for all languages.

Highlight Text Color Choose the color to highlight the user's search words in the HTML renditions of the items returned by the search.
Highlight Text Style Choose the style (underline, italic, big) to apply to the user's search words in the HTML renditions of the items returned by the search.

Oracle Text Base URL

Field Description
Base URL

Enter a base URL for all searchable items that have a relative URL attribute. The base URL is used to derive absolute URLs when building the Oracle Text index. The format for the base URL is: http://host:port/pls/dad

For example: http://myportal.com:4000/pls/design

If no value is specified, the relative URLs are not indexed and therefore any URL content that the relative URL points to, cannot be searched.
