Mobile Settings

Field Description
Enable Mobile Access
Select this check box to enable users to access the portal from mobile devices. Clear this check box to prevent users from accessing the portal from mobile devices and to hide the mobile design capabilities from developers.

This check box specifically controls whether the portal accepts or rejects requests routed through OracleAS Wireless, the intermediary in processing wireless requests.

Enable Mobile Page Design Select this check box so developers can create and edit pages using mobile design tools. Developers can also specify independent mobile home pages. When this check box is cleared, the portal is still accessible from mobile devices, but page designers are not able to create pages specifically for mobile devices.

Since most mobile devices have smaller display screens, pages are rendered as hierarchical menus instead of the standard tabular layout of desktop pages. The portal automatically maps the structure of standard pages for mobile devices. Developers may decide to edit this mobile structure or create a different one. To do this, you create separate pages for mobile access. These pages, targeted specifically for mobile access, are edited using mobile design tools that more reflect the hierarchical menu structure.

Developer Settings

Field Description
Log Mobile Responses

Select this check box to enable mobile portlet content logging. When selected, the portal logs the content that mobile portlets generate when they are rendered on a page in response to a mobile device request.

For mobile devices, portal content is rendered in an Oracle specific markup language called MobileXML. This markup is transformed by OracleAS Wireless to the appropriate device markup that generated the request. To facilitate portlet debugging, instruct the portal to log portlet responses to mobile requests.

To access the log:

  1. Add a portlet to a page.

Note: If you do not have an appropriate page already, go to the Build tab, Page Groups portlet and select Create Page. Then add a portlet to the page.

  2. Select Seeded Providers.

  3. Select Mobile.

  4. Select either the Mobile Log by Portlet or the Most Recent Mobile Log Entry

OracleAS Wireless Information

Field Description
OracleAS Wireless Portal Service URL

OracleAS Wireless is used by the portal as an intermediary in providing access to mobile devices. Mobile requests are received first by an OracleAS Wireless server and then routed through to the portal. So, the portal "home" URL for mobile access is different then the "home" URL for desktop access. To allow users to use the same URL to access their portal home page from mobile browsers or web browsers, register the OracleAS Wireless URL that targets the portal. This enables the portal to redirect mobile requests received directly from mobile devices through OracleAS Wireless. Consult the OracleAS Wireless documentation for information concerning how to determine the specifics of this URL.

Note: When OracleAS Portal is operating in hosted mode (i.e., with multiple subscribers), any change to the OracleAS Wireless service URL affects all subscribers and must be made by the hosting administrator, using a command line script: cfgiasw.csh (UNIX) or cfgiasw.cmd (NT).

Portal home page URL Displays the URL for the portal home page. You will need this information if you are creating an OracleAS Wireless service for your portal.
Portal character set Displays the character set used by the portal. You will need this information if you are creating an OracleAS Wireless service for your portal.
