My Notifications Portlet Settings

Field Description
Display Name Enter the name that you want to appear in the portlet header. The default is My Notifications.
Display Limit Choose whether to display all notification items in the portlet, or to limit the list to a specified number of notifications. The default is 10.
Display Options

Choose which notification types (Approval Notifications, Expiry Notifications, and/or Subscription Notifications) to display in the portlet and click Apply.

Note: If you selected Expiry Notifications and/or Subscription Notifications additional sections display on the page.

Display Notification Type Icon in Portlet Select whether to display the notification type icon for notifications listed in the portlet.
Display Notification Status in Portlet

Select whether to display the notification status for notifications listed in the portlet.

The status values include:

Status Description

About to Expire

For item expirations, the item is about to expire. The default expiry time frame is within 48 hours.

Item Deleted

For subscriptions, the item to which you subscribed was deleted.

Item Expired

For subscriptions, the item to which you subscribed has expired.

For item expirations, the item has expired.

Item Updated

For subscriptions, an item was updated on the page to which you subscribed.

Note: Updates include actual changes to items (for example, additional text added to a file), and also changes in item versioning. If you set an item to be the current version, this is considered an item update for subscriptions.

New Item

For subscriptions, a new item was added to the page to which you subscribed.

New Page

For subscriptions, a new sub-page was added to the page to which you subscribed.

Note: Notifications are not sent for updates to a sub-page.

New Portlet

For subscriptions, a new portlet was added to the page to which you subscribed.

New Tab

For subscriptions, a new tab was added to the page to which you subscribed.

New Version

For subscriptions, the object to which you subscribed has a new version.

Request Pending

For approvals, there is an approval request pending.

Note: A subscription notification will always link to the current version of the item. If you update the current item, or set an existing version to the current version, the status will be "Item Updated" in the notification. An item added as a new version and as the current version will have the status "New Version" in the notification. If an item is the new version, but not the current version, and you update it, this will not prompt a subscription notification.

Expiry Notification Filter Settings

Note: If you do not want to see expiry notifications in this portlet, make sure you clear the Show Expiry Notifications check box.

Field Description
Page Group Option Choose whether to display expiry notification items from all page groups in the portlet, or to limit the list to a specified page group(s). Click Browse Pages to select a page group.
User Group Option

Choose whether to display expiry notification items from all user groups in the portlet, or to limit the list to a specified user group(s). Click Browse Groups to select a user group.

For example, you may be a member of the MARKETING, SALES, and MANAGERS groups. Page Groups 1 and 2 are configured to notify MARKETING, Page Group 3 is configured to notify SALES, and Page Group 4 is configured to notify MANAGERS. You are only interested in being notified in this portlet when MARKETING content is about to expire, so you enter MARKETING in this field. You will then receive notifications from page groups 1 and 2. Note that you can configure another portlet to receive notifications for another group or groups, allowing you to control where you see the notifications.

Similarly, the page designer can edit the defaults of the portlet to target the notifications from this portlet to specific groups; for example, by putting this portlet on the home page of the MARKETING group, and configuring it to notify just that group.

Notes:

  • Use a semicolon (;) as the separator between multiple groups.
  • Because OID can include multiple containers that can use the same group names, the distinguished name (DN) is displayed next to any group that does not belong to the local OracleAS Portal instance.

Subscription Notification Filter Settings

Note: If you do not want to see subscription notifications in this portlet, make sure you clear the Show Subscription Notifications check box.

Field Description
Page Group Option Choose whether to display subscription notification items from all page groups in the portlet, or to limit the list to a specified page group(s). Click Browse Pages to select a page group.
Subscription Time Limit

Enter how long subscription notifications are displayed in the portlet. Notifications older than the specified time limit are not displayed. The default is 24 hours.

Note: Once a user is subscribed to a page or item, even if the subscribe link is moved or deleted, the user will still be subscribed to that page or item. Moving or deleting the subscribe link does not affect the subscriptions.

Cache Subscriptions For

Enter how long subscription notifications are retained in the cache. Notifications that have been in the cache longer than the specified time will be updated. The default is 60 minutes.

Enter a cache time period if you would like to change the default setting (60 minutes). This setting determines how frequently the subscriptions in the cache are updated. For example, if you specify 360 minutes, the cache will be updated once every 360 minutes.

Note: The cache is refreshed automatically for certain events, such as when a user subscribes to an object.
