| Locating this Page |
Use this page to change the page template the page uses. Only Standard pages or custom page types that are based on the Standard page type can use page templates.
When you choose a new template for a page, the Region Mapping interface appears only if your page includes any content that must be re-positioned relative to the new template.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Page Template | Initially displays the name of the page template on which the page is based. If the page does not currently have a template applied, <None> is displayed. Select a new template for the page using the drop-down list. |
| Region Mapping | Allows you to identify where content on the page should be located after the new template has been applied. Since the template you're applying most likely has a different layout than the current page, you must identify where content should be located on the page in the context of the new template. Region Mapping is displayed only when:
Keep in mind that any items or portlets that were inherently part of the original template will not appear on the page once the new template has been applied. For example, a page is initially based on Template A, which contains a navigation bar and four portlets. When Template B is applied, the page inherits the content dictated by template B: two portlets and a different navigation bar. You will not have an opportunity to map the four portlets and navigation bar that used to appear on the page, because those belonged to Template A, not to the page. Note: If you wanted to carry these portlets forward, however, you could detach the template (Template A) from the page. The page retains all the elements of the template but is no longer attached to it, i.e., the page now owns those elements. Then you could apply Template B. This scenario isn't terribly likely, however; in most cases, you're choosing a new template because you want the page to adhere to a standard look and feel, not because you're trying to create a hybrid of two templates. |
| Move content from ... | Lists each region in the current page containing content that must be re-positioned, including content on any tabs the page may contain. If the region has a name, that name is displayed, otherwise a number is assigned. Use the Preview section (described below) to determine which region a region number refers to. |
| Move content to ... | Lists only those regions in the template that:
|
| Preview <page name> | Displays the layout of the current page and assigns a region number to each region containing content that must be re-positioned. |
| Preview <template name> | Displays the layout of the template and assigns a region number to each region. |
