Portal Web Cache Settings

Field Description
Enable Web Cache For Caching Portal Content

Select this check box to use the Web Cache for caching portlets and other OracleAS Portal objects (for example, page metadata, public images, etc.).

Clear the check box if you do not want OracleAS Portal to use the Web Cache for caching purposes. We recommend that you clear the check box for debugging purposes only, since it can severely degrade OracleAS Portal's performance.

Web Cache Host Settings

Field Description
Host Name Enter the name of the machine on which Web Cache is running.
Invalidation Port Enter the port the Web Cache machine uses to receive invalidation requests.
Administration Port Enter the port the Web Cache machine uses to receive administration requests.
Invalidation User Name Enter the user name to use for Web Cache invalidation requests.
Invalidation Password Enter the password to use for Web Cache invalidation requests.

Clear Web Cache

Field Description
Clear The Entire Web Cache Select this check box, then click Apply to clear all of the portal's cache content from the Web Cache. Use this option sparingly since it could impact the portal's performance until the cache gets repopulated.
Clear Cache For User Enter or select a user name, then click Apply to clear all of the portal's cache content from the Web Cache for that particular user. Use this option sparingly since it could impact OracleAS Portal's performance until the cache gets repopulated.
Maximum Expiry Time

Enter the maximum amount of time (in minutes) that cache entries remain in the Web Cache.

All cache entries which use invalidation-based caching are cached in the Web Cache for, at most, the maximum expiry time. The cache contents expire after the maximum expiry time even if they are not invalidated during that period.

Note: Choosing a small value for this leads to cache misses more frequently because the cache expires more often. However, choosing a large value might lead to stale content.
